For Children and families
In Rovaniemi it is our joy to offer a variety of different events for families and children. All of our family events are in Finnish, but we warmly welcome you to join us.
Rovaniemi Parish organizes many weekly events for families with children:
Perhekerho ”Family club” is organized every week in many of our chapels throughout Rovaniemi. These family gatherings are for preschoolers with their parents, godparents, grandparents or other adults who are caring for them. In perhekerho children and adults can play together, do some crafts together, are offered a little snack - may be even oatmeal porridge is served - and of course we sing together and have a little devotion, in which we hear about our Heavenly Father. Perhekerho is a very good place to meet other parents and children. No need to sign up.
Vauvakahvila ”Baby Cafe” is for parents with babies. Whereas in perhekerho all preschoolers are welcome, in Vauvakahvila, due to safety reasons, we welcome parents with babies under one year old. In Vauvakahvila there is no fixed program or activities. Coffee is served as is plenty of company of our workers and other parents with their babies, perhaps even peer support. No need to sign up.
Pyhäkoulu ”Sunday School” is held every Sunday (except school holidays) in Rovaniemi Church during the Holy Mass. The Mass begins 10 am and Pyhäkoulu begins approximately 10.15 am upstairs, in the room behind the church organ. Pyhäkoulu lasts about 30 minutes. It is advisable for small children to partake pyhäkoulu with their parents, godparents or grandparents. In pyhäkoulu the devotion consists of God´s Word with visual materials, singing of children´s hymns and prayer. Some crafting is offered as well. Pyhäkoulu is over when the communion starts in the church.
Also during OMA-messu, which is held in Rovaniemi Church every other Sunday at 3 pm, pyhäkoulu is held.
Päiväkerho ”Day Club” is meant for 2-5-year-olds: They are held in many chapels, 2-3 days a week, 2-3 hours a day. The day clubs are run by qualified early childhood educators. In päiväkerho curriculum many useful skillls are learned, there are creative activities, singing, playing with other kids, a devotion and outdoor activities. The päiväkerho group is a fixed group but it is possible to join mid-term. There is a tuition fee of 40 euros per term. Signing up is required.
